Sonya Bettenay

Dr. med. vet. Sonya Bettenay, BVSc, DipED, MACVSc, FACVSc, DipECVD

Sonya Bettenay graduated from the University of Melbourne with a degree in veterinary medicine. Before her specialization, she worked as a small animal emergency vet and in the food industry. For the past 30 years, she has been working as a dermatologist and dermatopathologist (academic and private practice). She passed her Feline Medicine and Dermatology exam with the ANZCVS and is an ECVD Diplomate.

She was Co-Chair of the Program Committee of the 8th World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology (WCVD8) and a member of many other national and international program committees. For 9 years she worked on the International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology board. Her teaching activities continue with the distance education program in dermatology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sydney and the dermatopathology training of ECVD residents. She has published several professional publications, including textbook chapters, and co-authored the textbook "Practical Veterinary Dermatopathology" with Ann Hargis. She has lectured at numerous international and national dermatology meetings on every continent except Antarctica. Sonya splits her professional time between her clinical dermatology practice and an independent dermatopathology service.
